S is for sewing ebook.

I recently was privileged to test 3 out of the 4 patterns in the new “S” is for sewing ebook. I love all of three of them sew much  These patterns are included in my back to school sewing list for my kids. My favorite thing about all the patterns is that older boys are getting more excited about home made items.

The bookworm blazer is so amazing for those back to school pictures. It is very professional looking. My 11 year says that it make him look all grown up for going to middle school.

The quadralital Tee or quad tee by has a very special pocket. My kids call it their spy pocket. They can hide thing in there and mom won’t know. The best part about this shirt is that even my 15 year old got really excited about this shirt. This shirt only goes to a size 14 my son is very skinny. I was lucky enough to test sizes, extra small, medium and large. Which I thought was just perfect for my stair step kids.

My oldest is so excited for this back pack because it is so sturdy and wide he will be able to carry all his books with him. It also several different options for the straps. It is really change which position you want the straps in. There are lots of pockets. Even a place to keep a water bottle.

Scrap Busters Zanzibar tank and lounge pants

This summer I have been working on a ton scrap busters. I need to cut my scraps down. I had the privilege of testing the Zanzibar Tank and the Zanzibar Lounge Pants by Momma Quail Patterns. Both of these patterns are great for using up those pesky scrap wovens you have laying around.

Lounge pants are amazing they can be made with or without pockets. They can be long pants or shorts.

11403395_1006848206001219_633698027733667545_nThey can be made with light weight fabrics. This makes them very breathable to even wear in hot summer months.

The Tank has so many options. You can do a swing cut so that its more loose fitting or you can do a straight cut so it fits more like a regular boy shirt. You can add the hood or leave it off. My kids love the hood. Its was 100 plus degrees out side so when I took these pictures so my son did not want to smile.

If you make this with light weight fabric it makes it very breathable in the hot weather. The contrast strip on the hood and the side made out of the woven makes for a great unique shirt.

The great thing about these two patterns is if you get them both you can make you kids matching outfits.

You can get both pattern at Momma Quail patterns.

Timmy Top by Mamma Quail

I had the great honor of testing the Timmy Top by Mamma Quail. My kids are always looking for different button down shirts to wear to church. They are not into wearing the same old solid color button down shirt every Sunday.

DSC_0218 (2)

With the new Adventures movie coming out I asked my son what would he like. His answer was captain america. This a great weastern looking button down shirt. You can add all sorts of  contrast colors.

DSC_0231 (2)This shirt was designed for slimmer kids. For those of with super slim kids regular button shirts can be hard to get a good fit.

DSC_0225 (2)

I love how I was able to change the back and front yoke to make the sure pop.

Crochet smooth transitions for stripes

When you are making hat or amigurumi you sometimes need to add stripes. Most of the time when you add these stripes it will look like your stripes are off set a little. I am going to show you how to make add these stripes without the rows looking off set.

First step is to get to where you need to change colors. In the next stitch you want to do a slip stitch.

photo 1

Tie off your first color. This will make it look like all your rows line up.

photo 2

Now join you next color is the same spot has the previous slip stitch. Then place a sc in this space too.

photo 5

Now countine around with your stripe.

photo 2

If you need to add another row of this color you just keep going on until you need to switch colors again. When you are ready to switch colors again place a slip stitch to finish off this color.

photo 4

Join your next color again and place sc in the same space has your slip stitch. Repeat these steps until you have completed your project.

photo 2

Now weave in your ends. For this when you weave in your ends place the tales on the row below where you started. This will help smooth out the rows.

Rival Raglan Shirt

I have recently started testing patterns for designers. This is one amazing shirt. It is called the Rival Raglan. It was put out by GYCT Designs. Another great thing about this pattern is she also includes a matching dress and tunic.

I got to make 4 shirts one for each of my kids. They really love it and they keep telling me how much it feels and looks likes a shirt from the store. To quote my 10 year old “These are the best back to school shirts ever”. If you are looking for a fast few shirt this is one the quickest I’ve done. Yes I am new at sewing shirts but I can throw one of these together in 30 mins.

DSC_0095

This first shirt is made with woven cotton fabric for the sleeves and sport active knit fabric for the bodice. Its really light weight and breathable. Now my son’s arms are really skinny which is why I could get away with woven for the sleeves.

DSC_0072

This next shirt is made with light weight knit fabric for bodice and sport active knit for the sleeves. My 4 year old loves how it fits him. I actually think he just loves that hulk is on his shirt.

DSC_0077This next shirt is made out of active sport knit fabric on both the bodice and sleeves. Even though it is long sleeves its is really light weight and breathable. My son wears it even when its really hot outside.

DSC_0086Last but not least my favorite of all the shirts I made. This one is also made out active sport knit. However, the bodice on this shirt has reflective dots on it. It is really great since me and boys run and ride bikes quite a bit. Plus the bright green sleeve make them very visible.

After we were done taking pictures this day I gave them permission to throw rocks into the lake. They had a blast and it made for a great morning.
